Lampedusa is the practical base for a Pelagie Islands trip, with an airport, the broadest lodging choice, and local centers such as Moby Diving and Pelagos 2.0 running day boats. Its pale limestone coast creates luminous caverns, fissures, Posidonia meadows, and protected rocky reef. Offshore, Lampione adds exposed blue-water diving and a seasonal chance of gray sharks from July to September, while Linosa replaces limestone with black volcanic walls and columnar basalt.
This is not a self-directed shore-diving destination. Nonresident scuba and apnea divers in Marine Protected Area Zones B and C must use an authorized center, and recreational diving is prohibited in Zone A. Weather controls the ambitious routes, so place Lampione or Linosa early in the itinerary and keep a buffer day.
Non-divers get a complete island trip: timed access to Rabbit Beach, reserve trails, Tabaccara viewpoints, boat circuits, migration seasons, seafood evenings, and a slower volcanic stay on Linosa.
