Cold-water wrecks, living walls and Hebridean island days from Scotland's seafood capital
Aperçu
Oban and the Sound of Mull combine one of Britain's best-known wreck-diving circuits with sheltered training water, steep sea-loch walls and exceptional mixed-group travel. Base in Oban for transport, Gallanach Reef, SS Breda and day boats, or in Lochaline for shorter runs to Sound of Mull wrecks and walls. Summer brings the easiest blend of daylight, warmer water and reliable island excursions, but established operators also run specialist winter weekends. This is drysuit country: cold water, tides, boat traffic, deep drop-offs and silted wreck interiors reward disciplined buoyancy and local briefings. Non-divers can ride ferries to Mull and Iona, walk Oban's waterfront, or take weather-dependent wildlife boats toward Staffa and the Treshnish Isles.
A compact day-boat circuit reaches SS Breda near Oban and a long roster of Sound of Mull wrecks from Lochaline.

Shallow training at Gallanach Reef, vertical scenery at Lochaline, drift water and advanced wrecks support progression from supervised beginner dives to technical objectives.
Sea lochs and multiple route clusters give experienced skippers sheltered alternatives, although no operator can eliminate wind, tide or ferry disruption.
Rail-connected Oban, Mull ferries, Iona, Staffa, castles, coastal walks and wildlife tours make this one of Scotland's easier serious-dive destinations to share with non-divers.
