Aperçu
Split and Central Dalmatia combines a broad day-boat diving network with one of the Adriatic's strongest topside itineraries. Trogir and Ciovo open onto the walls, caves and wrecks of Solta; Brac adds sheltered coves, archaeological traces and deeper karst formations; the Makarska Riviera reaches Vruja and steep sites beneath Biokovo. Most trips are land based, using local centers rather than liveaboards. Warm-season surface water, generally clear limestone terrain and manageable distances suit certified beginners, while wrecks, caverns and deep walls reward advanced and technical divers. Freedivers can train from Split or work protected island bays, and snorkelers have easy pebble-beach entries across Ciovo, Solta, Brac and Makarska. Plan around weather, not a fixed site wish list: bura, jugo and afternoon wind can change boat routes. Pair water days with UNESCO-listed Split and Trogir, village life on Solta, Bol and Zlatni Rat on Brac, and Biokovo above Makarska.
Base in Trogir or Split for Ciovo and Solta, on Brac for island-focused diving, or in Makarska for Vruja and the eastern Riviera.
Limestone walls, overhangs, caverns and caves create scenic profiles, but true overhead sections require the correct training and gas plan.
Pajo, Ribolovac and smaller local wrecks sit alongside amphora fragments and Roman remains that must be observed without disturbance.
Sheltered bays and training reefs can work for new divers while deep walls, wrecks and technical routes challenge experienced teams.
