About Western Sambo Reef
Western Sambo Reef sits in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary off Key West and is part of the Sambo Ecological Reserve. The reef combines shallow patch reefs, spur-and-groove structure, and deeper bank reef sections, with snorkelable shallows and scuba-friendly areas. Expect classic Keys reef life such as sea turtles, grouper, reef sharks, snappers, wrasses, angelfish, and other small reef species. It is a protected boat-access site that works best with a local operator familiar with sanctuary rules.
