About Fotteyo Kandu
Fotteyo Kandu is one of Vaavu Atoll's classic outer-channel dives, built around a broad pass with reef edges, overhangs, caves, and a current-swept entrance where blue-water action often builds quickly. The site feels exposed and energetic rather than enclosed, with most dives following the channel edge or hooking into the mouth to watch movement in the water column while the reef drops away beside you. Divers come here for shark traffic, schooling fish, and the combination of pelagics with colourful reef structure. Grey reef sharks are the signature sighting, joined by white-tip reef sharks, tuna, barracuda, eagle rays, and occasional hammerhead encounters, while the walls and ledges carry soft-coral growth that keeps the reef visually rich between current-driven passes. It is a serious current dive that rewards quick descents, clean positioning, and comfort in blue water more than relaxed reef cruising.
