Visão geral
Pembrokeshire combines serious tidal diving around Skomer with more forgiving shore access in St Brides Bay. Day boats reach walls, reefs and the deep MV Lucy wreck, while Martin's Haven and St Brides Haven support local training when weather and boat movements allow. The underwater draw is ecological as much as scenic: pink sea fans, sponges, jewel anemones, nudibranchs, grey seals and dense fish life sit inside Wales' first Marine Conservation Zone. Above water, Skomer's puffins, Manx shearwaters and seal-pupping season make mixed-interest trips unusually strong. This is not a casual, guaranteed-visibility destination. Atlantic swell, cold water, rapidly changing weather, severe spring-tide currents and exposed boat runs demand local planning. Base on the mainland, reserve several operating days, and let the skipper or shore guide choose the site.
Wales' first Marine Conservation Zone protects rocky reef, eelgrass, sponge communities, pink sea fans and grey seals while still allowing responsible diving.
Skomer provides tidal walls and deep wrecks for experienced teams; St Brides Bay provides shallower shore entries and training terrain when wind and swell cooperate.
Puffins and auks peak in spring and early summer, Manx shearwaters remain through summer, and grey seal pups reshape the coastal wildlife focus from late summer into autumn.
Non-divers can land on Skomer, walk the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, visit St Davids, kayak with an accredited guide or explore beaches while divers use day boats.
