Most international travelers reach Zadar Airport, transfer to Zadar, and continue by ferry. Drivers use Jadrolinija line 434 from Gazenica to Brbinj. Foot passengers can use routes to Sali, Zaglav, Bozava, or Brbinj, but must solve the final island transfer before boarding because ports are far from several beaches and accommodations. Travelers arriving through another Croatian gateway can reach Zadar by road or intercity bus, then follow the same sea connection. Build a buffer between flight and ferry, especially on the final departure of the day or during strong wind.

The main gateway for northern Dalmatia, with a strongly seasonal European route network. The official airline list includes Croatia Airlines, Ryanair, easyJet, Lufthansa, Eurowings, Austrian Airlines, and other carriers whose routes vary by season.

A rental car is the most practical island transport. The main road links settlements, but remote beaches, Brbinjscica, Veli Rat, and the Dolac entrance to Telascica are not served like an urban network. Direct public transport into the park is not available. Passenger-ferry travelers should arrange accommodation pickup, a local taxi, a rental car, scooter, bicycle, or boat transfer before arrival. Roads can be narrow and dark; drive slowly, expect cyclists and animals, and refuel before remote loops.
Croatia is in the Schengen Area. EU, EEA, and Swiss travelers generally use a valid passport or national identity card under applicable free-movement rules. Other travelers may be visa-exempt for short stays or may need a Schengen visa; the common short-stay limit is up to 90 days in any 180-day period for eligible visitors. Passport validity rules, the Entry/Exit System, and ETIAS implementation can change. Check the European Commission and Croatian authorities for the traveler's exact nationality and dates before booking.
Coordinate bulky dive bags with the ferry operator, accommodation, and dive center. G&V publishes up to 20 kg of hand luggage on route 406, but cylinders, weights, and technical equipment should be rented or pre-cleared locally rather than carried casually. Kornati Diving Center advertises rental equipment, 12 L and 15 L cylinders, nitrox, trimix, oxygen, helium, stages, boosters, and rebreather support. Reserve specialty gas, sorb, bailout cylinders, and nonstandard sizes well in advance. Keep the last day flexible for ferry disruption and follow your computer and training-agency no-fly guidance.
Euro (EUR)
Cards are widely accepted in Zadar and at established island businesses, but cash remains useful for small cafes, seasonal kiosks, local transfers, and situations where connectivity fails. Confirm whether accommodation, diving, gas, park fees, and boat supplements are charged separately.
ATMs are plentiful in Zadar and available in larger island settlements, but they should not be treated as guaranteed in remote coves or late at night. Withdraw before long island loops and check dynamic currency conversion before accepting an ATM's proposed exchange rate.
230V • 50Hz • C, F
Bring a Type C or F adapter when needed and verify that chargers are rated for 230V. A compact power bank helps on boat days and in remote coves, but protect it from heat and saltwater.
Kommunikation
Croatia uses EU mobile networks, and EU or EEA roaming generally follows the subscriber's home-plan rules. Coverage is strongest around Zadar, settlements, and major roads, while outer-coast coves, cliffs, and sea passages can be patchy. Download ferry tickets, maps, emergency numbers, and accommodation directions before departure. Ask the operator which channel or phone contact is used for same-morning weather changes.
Sprache
Croatian is the official language. English is common in tourism, diving, ferries, and accommodation, with German and Italian also encountered. Learn basic greetings and carry written names for Sali, Zaglav, Brbinj, Bozava, Telascica, and the departure port because similar-sounding island routes can cause mistakes.
Versicherung
Carry travel insurance that explicitly covers scuba or freediving to the planned depth, emergency oxygen, search and rescue, maritime evacuation, recompression treatment, repatriation, missed connections, and weather-related ferry disruption. Standard policies may exclude technical profiles, caves, wreck penetration, solo activity, or diving beyond certification. EU travelers should bring an EHIC where eligible, but it does not replace evacuation, private-provider, or trip-cancellation coverage.
Packliste
Pack a 5mm full suit for spring and late autumn, with a hood or vest for repetitive dives; many summer travelers prefer 3mm to 5mm depending on cold tolerance. Add a surface marker buoy, computer, torch for appropriately trained overhead dives, water shoes, dry bag, refillable bottle, sun hat, high-coverage sun protection, light wind layer, and motion-sickness medication. Freedivers need a visible float and buddy system. Snorkelers benefit from compact fins and flotation. Keep one small overnight kit separate in case checked dive gear misses the flight or ferry.
