Buceo con botella

Cómo se siente

Holbox is best approached as a scuba add-on rather than a stand-alone reef destination. The island's big draw is pelagic season offshore (whale sharks are snorkel-only by regulation), while most classic reefs and wrecks live closer to Cancun, Isla Mujeres, and Cozumel. If you want to log tank dives on this trip, plan a split stay: Holbox for nature and topside calm, then a reef hub for structured diving. Winter cold fronts can cancel boats, so keep a flexible schedule.

Sitios destacados

Empieza aquí

Cabo Catoche
A dayboat area near the peninsula tip with patch reefs, fish life, and a mixingwater feel where conditions can shift quickly with wind.
MUSA Underwater Museum (Add-on)
Shallow sculpture installations between Cancun and Isla Mujeres that work well for buoyancy practice and wideangle photography in calmer conditions.

Avanzado

Isla Mujeres Reefs and Wrecks (Add-on)
A practical addon base for structured reef dives and wrecks close to Cancun, with more consistent dive infrastructure than Holbox itself.

Manual de planificación

Checklist del operador

If scuba is a priority, book your reef and wreck days first and treat Holbox as the nature extension. For whale sharks, plan snorkeling only: Mexican rules regulate whale shark interaction as snorkeling, not scuba. Pack a surface marker buoy for any open-water drift or boat pickups, and build a weather buffer day into your schedule during the rainy season.
