Koh Phangan is a convenient base for boat diving in the Gulf of Thailand, with regular day trips to Sail Rock and (in calm periods) longer runs to Koh Tao pinnacles and wrecks. PADI-affiliated shops around Thong Sala, Baan Tai, and Haad Yao commonly bundle transfers, equipment, and lunch, so you can stay in one place while still diving the region's headline sites.
The Gulf's marquee pinnacle: structure runs from about 40 m to the surface, with a chimney swimthrough that divers often enter around 6 m and exit around 18 m.
