The standard route is rail or road to Termoli, followed by a fast ferry to San Domino. Termoli maintains the strongest year-round role, with more frequent departures in summer. Seasonal boats may also operate from Vieste, Rodi Garganico, Peschici, Manfredonia or selected Abruzzo ports, but these should be treated as date-specific options rather than permanent links. Alidaunia's published 2026 timetable provides scheduled helicopter service from Foggia to San Domino, generally in about 20 minutes, with additional summer frequency. Build a buffer before an international flight because wind can delay or cancel both island boats and mainland connections.

A useful northern gateway for Termoli, particularly when its route network matches the travel dates. Continue south by rail or road before taking the ferry.

Plan for a car-free island stay. Visitors move around San Domino and San Nicola on foot, use water taxis between the inhabited islands and hire licensed boats or kayaks for permitted coastal routes. Leave a rental car in Termoli or another mainland port. Accommodation and dive centers may offer luggage pickup from the San Domino landing, which is worth arranging for heavy gear. Paths are compact but not universally accessible: slopes, steps, uneven stone and rocky coastal tracks can be difficult with large bags or limited mobility.
Italy is in the Schengen Area. EU, EEA and Swiss citizens should travel with a valid passport or accepted national identity card. Other visitors need a passport issued within the previous 10 years and normally valid for at least 3 months after the planned Schengen departure; visa requirements depend on nationality and total Schengen stay. As of September 5, 2026, the EU had not announced a fixed ETIAS start date and stated that travelers did not yet need to take action. Recheck the official EU pages immediately before travel because implementation status can change. The Tremiti Islands have no separate immigration form beyond Italian entry rules.
Prebook dive baggage on the ferry and label every piece. NLG's published 2026 Termoli tariff listed diving equipment separately from ordinary luggage, so do not assume a roller bag containing regulators is covered by the basic fare. Confirm helicopter baggage limits before choosing Foggia. Reserve rental BCDs, regulators, cylinders, weights, Nitrox and technical gases with the dive center in advance, especially outside peak summer. Carry computers, cameras, regulators and lithium batteries according to the transport provider's hand-baggage rules. Ask the accommodation about rinse, drying and secure overnight storage rather than rinsing gear in guest-room plumbing.

Cards are commonly accepted in Italy and at established island hotels, restaurants and dive centers. Keep a modest cash reserve for small seasonal businesses, water taxis or connectivity interruptions, and settle a dive-center balance before the departure rush when possible.
ATM access is more limited than in Termoli or a mainland city and can be affected by seasonal demand or network outages. Withdraw essential cash before boarding the ferry rather than depending on a single island machine.

Bring a Type C, F or L compatible adapter and use dual-voltage chargers. Small rooms or boats may have few outlets, so a compact power strip without surge or transformer assumptions can be useful when the accommodation permits it.
Communications
Italian mobile networks and accommodation Wi-Fi cover the inhabited islands, but cliffs, caves and offshore routes can create dead zones. EU subscribers generally use roam-like-at-home rules subject to fair-use terms; other visitors should compare an Italian or regional eSIM. Download ferry tickets, insurance documents, maps and operator numbers before leaving the mainland. A phone is not a substitute for marine VHF, signaling equipment or an operator emergency plan.
Langue
Italian is the working language. Tourism and dive staff often speak some English, but fluency is not universal. Learn basic Italian for ferry changes, food allergies and emergencies, and send technical diving or medical requirements in writing before arrival so the operator can confirm them precisely.
Assurance
Carry travel insurance that covers weather disruption, missed connections and the nonrefundable parts of an island stay. Divers and freedivers should add specialist coverage for emergency consultation, search and rescue where applicable, sea or helicopter evacuation and hyperbaric treatment. Confirm depth, technical, freediving and professional-activity exclusions rather than relying on a generic adventure-sports clause.

For summer diving, many visitors will choose a 3mm to 5mm full suit according to cold tolerance; May and October often justify a 5mm suit, hood and wind layer. Pack an SMB, computer, compact torch, certification cards, insurance proof and seasickness medication. Freedivers need a lanyard, visible buoy and thermal protection. Snorkelers benefit from a personal mask and flotation aid. Everyone should bring grip footwear, a hat, reusable bottle, dry bag, reef-safe sun protection and a light jacket for ferry spray or cool evenings.
