The Centro Iperbarico Sassarese in Sassari specializes in hyperbaric and diving medicine, but divers should not self-transport or assume immediate chamber availability after a suspected decompression illness. Call 112 for urgent medical response, 1530 for maritime rescue when relevant, and DAN Europe for specialist triage and facility coordination. Asinara evacuation can require a boat transfer before road transport, so the operator's emergency plan, oxygen supply, GPS position and communications are critical. Eligible European travelers should carry an EHIC, but it does not replace travel and diving insurance or cover every evacuation and private cost.
Mistral and exposed departures
Northwesterly wind can roughen the western and northern coast quickly, strengthen current around points and close the intended route. Accept site swaps and avoid pressuring a skipper to chase a famous location.
Overhead environments
Caverns, tunnels and caves require route-specific training, redundant equipment, gas discipline and authorized local leadership. Daylight visible at an opening is not a universal recreational exemption.
Protected-area boundaries and permits
Zone A restrictions, designated sites, private authorization, mooring rules and Asinara landing controls are enforceable. Old operator blogs do not replace the current 2026 regulations.
Summer heat and limited shade
Asinara's park guidance discourages long summer hikes because of high heat, strong sun, little shade and reduced water availability. Carry more water than a normal city day and shorten routes.
These rules protect slow-growing coralligenous communities, extensive Posidonia meadows, sensitive cave habitat and an island landscape with limited capacity. The permit is not just a fee; it is part of the management system that keeps access possible.
