Historical exploitation and hunting
Some species were subject to commercial exploitation or hunting, including operations off Japan and intensive hunting of the northern bottlenose whale in the North Atlantic.

Guia da espécie
Um guia de campo claro focado em habitat, identificação, comportamento e conservação sem esconder as partes úteis.
Beaked whales are members of the cetacean family Ziphiidae. They are considered one of the least-known groups of mammals due to their deep-sea habitat, reclusive behavior, and apparent low abundance. There are 24 recognized extant species, but only three or four species are reasonably well-known. Some species have been subject to commercial exploitation or hunting: Baird's beaked whale and Cuvier's beaked whale were exploited off the coast of Japan, and the northern bottlenose whale was extensively hunted in the northern North Atlantic in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Reports emerged in late 2020 of a possible new beaked whale species off the coast of Mexico, with its taxonomy undetermined as of December 2020.
Commonly cited pressures include Historical exploitation and hunting.
