Granite shoals, protected Posidonia, and Mediterranean wrecks from a relaxed Sardinian base
Capo Carbonara is a managed reserve with clear safety expectations: use authorized operators, follow zone and site permissions, maintain buddy contact, respect daylight and flag requirements, and accept weather-driven changes. The main operational risks are rapidly increasing depth, current, surface chop, boat traffic, summer heat, and distance from advanced medical care. For a suspected diving injury, stop diving, provide oxygen if trained and equipped, call 112, and contact DAN Europe. Do not delay because symptoms seem mild.
Villasimius has an out-of-hours continuity-care service at Via Regina Elena 10, and seasonal tourist medical services may operate during the summer. These are appropriate for non-life-threatening problems under their published schedules, not a substitute for emergency response. Hospital and specialist resources are centered in Cagliari. Ospedale Marino includes hyperbaric medicine, but suspected decompression illness should be coordinated through 112 and DAN rather than self-transported directly. Save the accommodation address, marina pickup point, operator number, insurance policy, medication list, and emergency contacts offline. Mobile coverage at sea or behind headlands can be less reliable than in town.
Wind-Driven Site Changes
The headland and offshore islands are exposed to changing wind and chop. A safe operator may replace a requested wreck, wall, or Serpentara route with a sheltered alternative or cancel.
Rapidly Increasing Depth
Shoals such as Punta Nord di Serpentara can fall away quickly. Watch depth and gas rather than following the terrain or a fish school below the planned profile.
Boat Traffic and Surface Exposure
Use the required flag or buoy, remain with the guide or support point, and surface as briefed. Independent MPA activities have explicit distance, buddy, and daylight conditions.
Summer Heat and Sun
July and August can make boats, beaches, parking queues, and exposed walks dehydrating. Carry water, cover skin, use shade, and move hikes to the coolest hours.
Posidonia oceanica is a flowering plant and foundation habitat, not waste or an inconvenience. Keep fins and gauges above living shoots, never stand in a meadow, and use authorized moorings or verified sand rather than anchoring on seagrass. Leave natural beach wrack in place because it helps retain sand and nutrients.
Dolphins, schooling fish, groupers, and waterbirds are wild encounters. Do not feed, surround, touch, call, or pursue them. Keep cameras controlled, protect nesting and resting distance, and let animals choose the encounter.
Das solltest du nicht tun
Geh nicht ins Wasser, wenn wind-driven site changes. Prüfe lokale Briefings, bevor du dich festlegst.
