Can beginners dive S/S Nicomedia?

No, not as a default plan. S/S Nicomedia is an advanced wreck dive because of the depth, the low visibility, and the deteriorating structure.

How deep is S/S Nicomedia?

S/S Nicomedia sits in the deep wreck field at roughly 24 to 39 m, so it belongs in the experienced-diver category rather than the easy shore-dive category.

Is S/S Nicomedia a boat or shore dive?

S/S Nicomedia is a boat dive. The site is handled through wreck operators in the Karlskrona and Kalmar area rather than as a casual shore entry.

Should I penetrate S/S Nicomedia?

Only if you have the right wreck training and the operator says conditions and structure are suitable. For most divers, the safer plan is to stay external.

What hazards should I watch for at S/S Nicomedia?

Watch for depth, overhead space, loose steel, and snag points. The wreck is starting to fall apart, so conservative buoyancy and route choice matter.

What is S/S Nicomedia best for?

S/S Nicomedia is best as a serious Baltic wreck dive for experienced divers who want history, deep profiles, and a steel wreck that still has shape left to explore.

What makes S/S Nicomedia worth diving?

S/S Nicomedia is worth diving for the 1915 history, the preserved wreck form, and the chance to see a major Baltic cargo wreck before it degrades further.

What visibility should I expect at S/S Nicomedia?

S/S Nicomedia usually has bad visibility, often around the low single-digit meter range, so you should plan for short sightlines and disciplined navigation.

About S/S Nicomedia

S/S Nicomedia is a Baltic wreck dive off Sweden, part of the German cargo ships sunk by E19 in 1915. It is a deep boat dive for experienced divers, with the wreck sitting in the mid-20s to upper-30s meters and the structure now starting to break apart. The dive is about history, hull shape, and careful planning rather than bright water or easy access. Treat it as a serious wreck outing that rewards disciplined buoyancy and gas management.
