Dive Safe & Leave No Trace
Safety and conservation standards for every dive logged here.
DiveJourney exists to document and discover dive sites, not to encourage risk-taking. Whether you snorkel, freedive, or scuba dive, you are responsible for proper training, conservative planning, and safe execution. This is a community map; treat the sites, people, and ocean with care.
1 · Respect the Water Safety Code
| Rule | What it looks like | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Know your limits. | Stay within the training, depth, current, and visibility you are qualified for. | Conditions change fast; exceeding training increases risk. |
| Never dive alone. | Use a buddy system, agree on the plan, and keep contact. | Immediate help is critical in an emergency. |
| Check conditions first. | Review forecast, tides, swell, entry/exit points, and local guidance. | Sites can change hourly. |
| Carry a surface marker. | Use an SMB/flag or high-visibility buoy when required. | Boat traffic is real, and visibility protects you. |
| Respect local regulations. | Follow permits, closures, marine park rules, and access guidelines. | Noncompliance harms sites and access for everyone. |
| Keep a safety margin. | Plan gas/time reserves, conservative turn points, and a daylight buffer. | Margins cover the unexpected. |
2 · Protect the Site (Leave No Trace)
Observe, don't touch.
Avoid contact with coral, wrecks, shells, and marine life.
Leave natural and cultural items in place.
Shells, sand, artifacts, and fossils belong where they are.
Use reef-safe sun protection.
Prefer mineral sunscreen or protective clothing to reduce reef impact.
Pack it in, pack it out.
Remove all trash, including ties, tape, and food wrappers.
Keep groups small and noise low.
Lower disturbance protects wildlife and improves the experience for others.
Keep wildlife wild.
Do not chase, feed, or crowd animals; give them space.
3 · Share Responsibly
- Share accurate information only. If you are unsure, leave the field blank or add context instead of guessing.
- Avoid exaggeration or unsafe recommendations; misleading content can be removed and accounts suspended.
- Report spam, duplicates, or unsafe listings so the map stays reliable.
4 · Legal Reality Check
