Protected Mediterranean reefs beneath terraced vineyards at the edge of France and Catalonia

Scuba is the destination's strongest water activity. Rederis and Aquablue in Banyuls-sur-Mer, plus Plongee Cap Cerbere in Cerbere, run local training and short boat trips into or around the protected coast. The core scenery is Mediterranean: broken rock, fissures, boulder fields, coralligenous ledges, Posidonia, gorgonians, and occasional sand transitions. Cap l'Abeille and Les 3 Moines are reserve classics, while Sec a Joel adds a deeper, more exposed pinnacle profile for experienced divers. The reserve is not a casual self-service shore-diving zone. Scuba authorization, mooring rules, an enhanced-protection no-dive sector, no-DPV rules, night-dive notice, and strict no-touch conduct all shape the day. Book through a local structure unless you have independently confirmed every private-diver authorization requirement.
A core reserve sector with fixed moorings, rocky relief, coralligenous habitat, and a strong chance of groupers, corb, barracuda, dentex, and other protectedcoast life.
A characterful reserve profile of relief, fissures, sand edges, and coralligenous growth, with commonly dived terrain around {{ 21 | distance:m }}.
Reserve Marine Banyuls-Cerbere
The broader reserve link groups the protected habitat, formal rules, short operator transfers, and varied site rotations that define the destination's signature scuba product.
Two rocky high points, coralligenous growth, and gorgonians create a more exposed advanced profile, generally planned between about {{ 20 | distance:m }} and {{ 32 | distance:m }}.
A deep regional wreck extension off PortVendres for appropriately qualified divers when weather, boat schedules, gas planning, and operator policy align.
Checklist del operador
Use a Banyuls or Cerbere operator to handle reserve authorization, legal site selection, mooring assignment, and weather-driven substitutions. Private teams face their own authorization and reporting duties. Inside the reserve, do not use a diver propulsion vehicle, touch the substrate or wildlife, collect anything, feed animals, or enter the enhanced-protection zone. Buoyancy compensation is mandatory. A reserve night dive must be notified to the reserve manager by 17:00 on the day of the dive. Build at least one spare dive window into the itinerary because Tramontane can force a safer site or cancellation.
