Perhentian delivers the classic Malaysia east-coast mix: warm water, healthy hard corals, and short boat rides from beach-based dive centers. In season, operators on Perhentian Kecil (for example around Coral Bay and Long Beach) and Perhentian Besar run multiple daily trips to reefs, pinnacles, and two crowd-pleasing wrecks. Most dives are beginner-friendly, but sites like Tokong Laut and the Vietnamese Wreck add current and structure for more experienced divers. Expect frequent sea turtles, schooling reef fish, and occasional blacktip reef sharks at Shark Point.
Temple of the Sea (Tokong Laut)
A series of boulders and pinnacles from about 5 m down to 25 m, famous for turtles, schooling fish, and the occasional pelagic when current is running.
T3 (Terumbu Tiga / Tiger Rock)
Large coral formations, boulder canyons, and swim-through style gaps around 20 m to 22 m.
Shallow staghorn and mixed reef around 15 m to 16 m where blacktip reef sharks can cruise the shallows alongside turtles and dense reef fish.
A relaxed coral garden and sandy patches around 12 m to 15 m, popular for training dives and for spotting bumphead parrotfish and clownfish.
A compact, training-friendly wreck sitting around 18 m.
Often dived around 22 m to 24 m with stronger current potential.
A deeper slope to around 28 m with denser fish life and darker corals.
