On-water Risk Profile

• Boat traffic is constant near popular beaches. Use an SMB and follow the group's ascent plan.
• Current and surge can be stronger at exposed sites (for example Tokong Laut and the Vietnamese Wreck). If conditions are outside your comfort zone, choose sheltered reefs.
• Monsoon planning: avoid forcing crossings or dives during rough-weather windows.

Good Habits That Make the Trip Safer

• Do a buoyancy check on the first dive and keep fins off the reef.
• Stay hydrated and avoid stacking too many strenuous dives back-to-back.
• Carry a cutting tool and a whistle, and know the local lost-buddy procedure.

Medical resources on the islands are limited. For serious injury or illness, evacuation is typically by boat to Kuala Besut, then onward by road to mainland facilities. For diving-related emergencies, your dive operator will coordinate first aid and evacuation logistics. If you dive, carry dive accident insurance (for example DAN or equivalent) and keep your insurer's emergency number offline on your phone.

Marine Park Rules and Reef Etiquette

• Pay the Marine Park conservation charge and keep the receipt.
• No fishing or collecting (shells, corals, marine life) within Marine Park waters.
• Do not touch coral, ride turtles, or chase animals for photos.
• Reduce plastics: bring a reusable bottle and refuse unnecessary bags and straws.

• Join or support local cleanups and turtle-conservation programs where permitted.
• Choose operators that brief buoyancy, use mooring buoys, and actively manage waste.
