Logística · Guía de destino
Volcanic pinnacles by licensed boat, misty summit trails and a tiny Caribbean island with real character.
Usa este resumen para organizar llegada, transporte local y movimiento de equipo antes de cerrar el itinerario.
Most international visitors first arrive at Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) on the Dutch side of Sint Maarten, then use a regional flight to Saba (SAB) or a scheduled passenger ferry to Fort Bay. Winair publishes short Twin Otter connections; availability and baggage limits depend on the flight. Makana Ferry operates regional island crossings, but the exact service days and slow-season suspension notices must be checked on its live schedule. Weather and port or airport operations can disrupt either mode. Arrange on-island taxi pickup before arrival. Do not schedule a same-day international connection without a sensible buffer. The Caribbean Explorer II liveaboard is a separately sold overnight multi-island itinerary: confirm its departure port independently, and do not infer it departs from Saba.
Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport
SAB • TNCS
Short island taxi journey, varying by Windwardside, The Bottom or Fort Bay accommodation; confirm directly.
Saba's very short-runway regional airport served by short flights from Sint Maarten, generally aboard small aircraft. This is not a long-haul international airport.
Transporte: Prearranged local taxi, Accommodation-arranged pickup when available
Windwardside and The Bottom are common visitor bases, while Fort Bay serves dive boats and ferries. The island has steep, winding roads; do not assume a walkable connection between a room and the harbor. Prearranged taxis are useful, especially for airport arrivals, trail endpoints, early dives and ferry pickup. Sea Saba currently advertises a complimentary accommodation-to-diving taxi shuttle for its guests, subject to its own conditions; that service is not a general island bus. Check lodging for pickups and taxis' availability at remote Wells Bay or trailheads. Avoid suggesting unverified rental-car fleets or a universal public bus schedule.
Saba is part of the Caribbean Netherlands but is not part of the Schengen Area. Use the official Caribbean visa checker for your nationality, intended duration, passport validity, return or onward journey and entry evidence. Rules may differ from those for European Netherlands. If arriving via Sint Maarten, separately check Sint Maarten's entry/transit and electronic form requirements through your airline and the responsible authority. Do not assume that permission to enter one island automatically grants entry to every nearby island. Yacht visitors must clear Port, Customs and Immigration at Fort Bay and follow the harbor-master and marine-park process.
Sea Saba has full scuba rental packages, nitrox for qualified divers, equipment handling and mandatory dive computers for its trips. Confirm current stock, sizes, regulator compatibility, cameras and advance certification or medical paperwork. Its published advanced two-tank program has logged-dive thresholds and requires enriched air on the deeper first dive. Boat snorkeling includes basic surface equipment but is unguided and weather-permitting; independently confirm buoyancy aids and personal fit. Pack a dry bag and snacks for midday boats. Dive equipment logistics do not imply an available freediving safety line, instructor or technical life-support rental. The carrier's inter-island baggage allowance may be tighter than the international flight's, so check both before bringing heavy equipment.
United States Dollar (USD)
USD is legal tender in the Caribbean Netherlands. Card payments are common at established businesses but do not assume every ferry counter, small venue, taxi or park charge accepts cards. Bring modest USD cash and check each provider's method.
Public Entity Saba announced ATMs at Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport and Fort Bay Harbor on June 29, 2026. They initially accepted Visa only; extension to Mastercard was planned but not verified as completed. Other proposed machines in Windwardside and The Bottom should not be assumed active solely from a planning notice. Older guidebook claims of zero ATMs are stale.
110-127 V generally; verify accommodation • 60 Hz generally • A, B
North American-style plugs are common. Some properties or equipment connections may vary. Confirm actual voltage and sockets with lodging and use dual-voltage charging equipment rather than assuming a universal adapter changes voltage.
Comunicaciones
English is widely used; mobile and internet service in villages may differ from coverage on steep trails or remote bays. Download maps, save accommodation and taxi numbers offline and carry a power bank. Wells Bay in particular may have poor or absent coverage. Do not rely on continuous data service for marine/weather safety decisions. Ask your mobile provider about Caribbean Netherlands roaming since it differs from European Netherlands pricing.
Idioma
English is the main daily language for tourism and many residents. Dutch has an official administrative role in the Caribbean Netherlands, and Saba also has its own local culture and linguistic traditions. Do not assume Spanish or European Dutch is required to speak to a dive shop.
Seguro
Choose coverage explicitly including your scuba certification/depth and any planned technical activity, hyperbaric treatment, emergency evacuation, regional medical transfers, flights/ferries interrupted by weather, and nonrefundable bookings. Some general travel policies exclude diving, high-risk adventure and storm claims after a named system forms. Verify current coverage directly with the insurer. There is no verified organized local freedive trip to insure without separate operator evidence. A chamber on the island does not remove the need for evacuation insurance.
Lista de equipaje
Bring certification credentials, logbook, approved dive computer, a comfortable warm-water exposure layer, non-glove reef-safe accessories, prescribed medications, travel documents and proof of insurance. For non-diving days pack grippy hiking footwear, a light rain jacket, water bottle, insect and sun protection, dry bag, offline maps and a small amount of cash. Ask operators about tanks, weights, masks and rental wetsuit thickness before packing bulky kit. Check the smaller inter-island aircraft's luggage policy separately from the international airline's.
