Most travelers fly to Lampedusa Airport (LMP). Territorial-continuity flights link Lampedusa with Palermo and Catania, while seasonal direct services from mainland Italian cities vary by carrier and season. Build extra connection time rather than using separate tickets with a tight same-day margin, especially when traveling with checked dive equipment.
Sea access starts at Porto Empedocle in Sicily. Liberty Lines operates fast-craft services and Caronte and Tourist operates conventional ferry service to Linosa and Lampedusa. Published patterns, vessel calls, and vehicle acceptance vary, and weather can delay or cancel a crossing. The conventional passage is roughly 6 to 7 hours to Linosa and 9 to 10 hours to Lampedusa under the operator's general guidance.
Linosa is connected to Lampedusa by scheduled sea service when conditions permit. Lampione has no public transport or visitor infrastructure; it is reached only on an authorized excursion or dive boat.

The island airport is the main gateway. DAT operates the Palermo and Catania territorial-continuity links; seasonal mainland routes change, so use the live airport timetable for the travel date.

Lampedusa is compact but hot and exposed. A small rental car or scooter gives the most flexibility for coves, trailheads, the airport, and evening dining. Match the vehicle to experience, insurance, road conditions, and luggage; helmets and normal Italian licensing rules apply. Taxis and prearranged transfers cover airport and harbor movements, while the local circular bus is useful for travelers with time and light baggage.
Parking near famous beaches is limited in peak summer, and the final approach to Rabbit Beach is on foot. Linosa is small enough for a walking-centered stay, but confirm luggage transfer with the property. Do not plan a tight airport connection after a ferry or remote boat day, because sea-state delays can break the schedule.
Italy applies Schengen entry rules. EU, EEA, and Swiss citizens should carry a valid passport or national identity card. Other travelers generally need a passport issued within the previous 10 years and valid for at least 3 months after the planned Schengen departure. Visa-exempt stays are usually limited to 90 days in any 180-day period; some nationalities need a visa and border officials can request accommodation, return-transport, and financial evidence.
As researched on September 5, 2026, ETIAS was not yet operational and the official EU site was not accepting applications. EU planning material expected launch in the last quarter of 2026, but the exact start date remained subject to official confirmation. Recheck the EU ETIAS page and the Italian consular authority for the traveler's nationality immediately before booking and departure.
Prebook rental sizes, Nitrox, technical gas, rebreather consumables, and stage or bailout cylinders. Pelagos 2.0 advertises technical capability, but island inventory is not unlimited and special gas requests need lead time. Confirm whether the dive package includes tanks, weights, guide, boat, lunch, equipment, and remote-island supplements.
Airlines may treat a dive bag as standard checked baggage or sports equipment depending on fare. Remove cylinder valves only when the airline requires it, carry lithium batteries and dive computers in cabin baggage, and never fly with pressurized cylinders. Pack prescription masks, computer chargers, fin straps, mouthpieces, and exposure items that cannot be replaced generically. Allow one arrival day before a critical remote trip in case checked equipment is delayed.
Euro (EUR)
Cards are widely useful at hotels, established restaurants, rental agencies, and dive centers, but cash remains practical for buses, small bars, beach purchases, tips, and backup when terminals or communications fail. Confirm remote-boat balances and cancellation terms before departure.
ATMs are concentrated in Lampedusa town and can be busy or temporarily depleted in peak season. Withdraw before traveling to Linosa and carry more than one payment method, but avoid taking unnecessary cash on boats or beaches.
230V • 50Hz • C, F, L
Italy mainly uses Type C and Type L sockets, with Type F also encountered. Bring a compact adapter, confirm that chargers accept 230V, and pack a power bank in cabin baggage under airline lithium-battery rules.
Communications
Italian mobile networks cover Lampedusa town and much of the road network, but cliffs, coves, open water, and parts of Linosa can be patchy. EU roaming generally applies to eligible EU plans under fair-use rules. Download offline maps, tickets, insurance details, and operator contacts. Do not rely on messaging alone for a sea emergency; use 112 or 1530.
Langue
Italian is the working language, with Sicilian local speech and increasing seasonal English in dive centers, hotels, and excursions. Send technical gas, medical, accessibility, and food-allergy requirements in writing before arrival. A few Italian sea-state and safety phrases are useful on small boats.
Assurance
Choose a policy that explicitly covers the planned maximum depth, repetitive scuba, freediving, technical or rebreather activity where relevant, hyperbaric treatment, search and rescue, medical evacuation, missed transport, and weather disruption. The Lampedusa chamber is seasonal, so evacuation limits matter. Carry the insurer and DAN assistance numbers offline and tell the operator about material medical conditions.
