When to go

Best time to visit Fiji

Fiji has a warm tropical climate with a wetter cyclone season from November to April and a drier travel season from May to October.

Best overall window

May - October

Drier season, cooler evenings, lower rainfall, and easier mainland touring. Water often sits around 25°C to 28°C.

Outside that window

Wettest and warmest season, with tropical depressions, cyclone risk, and higher humidity. Water can be around 28°C to 30°C.

Choose your trip style

Start with the overall answer, then switch only when scuba, freedive, snorkel, or topside timing changes the trip in a meaningful way.

  • Yasawa Manta Rays

    Best for Snorkel, Freedive, Topside

    May to Oct

    JanFebMarAprMayJunJulAugSepOctNovDec

Guided manta snorkeling and freediving are strongest around the Yasawa channel between Drawaqa and Naviti when conditions and tide line up.

  • Kadavu Manta Potential

    Best for Scuba, Snorkel, Freedive

    Apr to Oct

    JanFebMarAprMayJunJulAugSepOctNovDec

Kadavu's remote reefs can produce manta encounters, but sightings are weather and site dependent, so plan multiple reef days.

  • Humpback Whale Passage

    Best for Topside, Scuba, Snorkel

    Aug to Oct

    JanFebMarAprMayJunJulAugSepOctNovDec

Humpbacks are most associated with Fiji's late dryseason migration window.

  • Sea Turtle Nesting

    Best for Topside, Snorkel

    Oct to Apr

    JanFebMarAprMayJunJulAugSepOctNovDec

Several sea turtle species use Fiji waters, with important nesting and conservation areas including Namenalala, Kubulau, and other island beaches.

  • Soft-Coral Current Days

    Best for Scuba

    May to Nov

    JanFebMarAprMayJunJulAugSepOctNovDec

Soft coral is best when current feeds reef walls and pinnacles.

  • Shark Conservation Dives

    Best for Scuba

    Year-round

    JanFebMarAprMayJunJulAugSepOctNovDec

Beqa and selected Yasawa shark dives operate across much of the year when conditions allow.

  • Tagimoucia and Rainforest Season

    Best for Topside

    Oct to Dec

    JanFebMarAprMayJunJulAugSepOctNovDec

Taveuni's rainforest side can be especially rewarding for nondivers when native flowers, waterfalls, and green trails complement Rainbow Reef dive days.

Always true for this destination
  • May to October is the easiest national window because transfers, hiking, snorkeling, and diving line up more reliably.
Seasonal cautions
  • Apr, Nov: Transitional months with warm water, fewer crowds outside school holidays, and mixed rain patterns by island group.
  • Dec to Mar: Wettest and warmest season, with tropical depressions, cyclone risk, and higher humidity. Water can be around 28°C to 30°C.
