Dorset is reached overland rather than through a single gateway. Direct South Western Railway trains link London Waterloo with Weymouth, also serving stations such as Bournemouth, Poole, Wareham, and Dorchester on relevant routes. For Swanage, continue from Wareham on Morebus Breezer 40 or from Bournemouth and Sandbanks on Breezer 50. Weymouth and Portland are linked by local First Bus services. Drivers can approach Purbeck through Wareham or use the Sandbanks chain ferry when it is operating; check live status because maintenance and weather can force a longer road diversion. International visitors often use Bournemouth, Southampton, or a London airport, then continue by rail, coach, rental car, or pre-booked transfer.
A car is the most flexible option for boats, cylinders, early starts, and coves, but it is not essential for a carefully clustered trip. Swanage is connected to Wareham and Poole by Breezer 40 and to Bournemouth through Studland and Sandbanks by Breezer 50.
