Mediterranean wrecks, granite walls, clear coves, and Tuscan island life
Pick an activity mode to compare signature sites, skill fit, and gear planning notes before you lock your trip.
Elba rewards divers who value variety and adaptable day-boat planning. Around Marina di Campo, the Elviscot, Fetovaia, Capo Fonza, and Corbella range from a shallow beginner wreck to walls and shoals with advanced depth or current. Scoglietto di Portoferraio adds a long-protected reef zone, while deeper wrecks and aircraft remains broaden the technical menu. Elba Diving Network describes a practical April to October operating season, with the warmest and most dependable schedules in summer. The key is not to demand one exposed site on one date: book a reputable local center, state your certification and recent experience accurately, and let the skipper use wind direction, current, and visibility to choose the safest coast.
A protected reef zone off Portoferraio, recognized for longstanding conservation, a submerged Christ statue, sponges, reef fish, and classic northern Elba scenery.
A shallow summit near 12 m gives way to a wall approaching 40 m, with sponges, small invertebrates, and opportunities for careful multilevel profiles.
A dramatic formation rising to about 3 m and dropping toward 40 m.
A maze of rock between roughly 15 m and 35 m, suited to divers who enjoy topography, schooling fish, and springtime possibilities for dentex or amberjack.
A regulated nationalpark experience using authorized centers, environmental guides, small groups, and designated mooring buoys.
A cargo wreck broken close to Ogliera Rock, with the stern and bridge around 12 m.
A deeper aircraft site commonly described around 38 m.
Operator Checklist
Choose a center near your accommodation or verify pickup and harbor location before paying. Send certification level, logged dives, last-dive date, equipment sizes, and any enriched-air qualification in advance. July and August require early reservations; May, June, September, and early October are often easier for flexible divers. Pianosa must be booked through an authorized operation and can be changed by park, sea, or logistics conditions. Do not plan a no-fly interval by guesswork: follow your computer, agency guidance, and DAN advice, especially before a seasonal flight from Marina di Campo.
