Leipzig/Halle Airport (LEJ) is the closest commercial airport. S5 and S5X trains connect the terminal with Leipzig Hauptbahnhof in about 15 minutes, and the central station provides onward regional and long-distance rail. International travelers often compare a through-rail itinerary with the limited and seasonal route map at LEJ. For a dive-focused trip, collect a rental car after the city segment or at the airport so cylinders, drysuits, and wet gear do not have to move through public transport. Wildschutz is in the Mockrehna area northeast of Leipzig and should be treated as a prebooked operator visit rather than a spontaneous lake stop.

Central Leipzig has strong tram, bus, and S-Bahn coverage. Kulkwitzer See is one of the easiest lake days without a car: official visitor guidance describes S1 to Miltitzer Allee followed by a walk, with additional bus and tram approaches. Use the MDV or LeipzigMOVE journey planner for current times, zones, disruptions, and tickets. Cospuden and Markkleeberg can be combined with regional transit and bicycle or taxi, while Schladitz is practical through Rackwitz connections and local onward travel. Wildschutz and multi-site dive days strongly favor a rental car. Never assume public transport accepts wet, dripping, or unsecured cylinders.
Germany is in the Schengen Area. Visa requirements depend on nationality, residence, trip purpose, and stay length. Many visa-exempt visitors may make short stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period, but this is not universal and does not normally authorize work. The EU Entry/Exit System has been fully operational at external Schengen borders since April 10, 2026 and digitally registers covered non-EU short-stay travelers. As of September 5, 2026, ETIAS is not operating and official applications are not being accepted. Check the German Federal Foreign Office and the EU EES and ETIAS portals immediately before travel, because procedures can change. Carry the passport and supporting documents required for your nationality, plus travel insurance and operator booking details.
Prebook sports baggage and check the airline's lithium-battery and light-canister rules. Do not fly with a pressurized cylinder. Rent cylinders and weights locally to reduce baggage, but reserve unusual sizes, twinsets, stage bottles, rebreather support, drysuits, and specialty gases. One Leipzig operator publishes seasonal weekend air fills at Kulkwitz and directs Nitrox users to its city shop; confirm current hours and blend capability. Carry regulators, computer, mask, critical prescription items, and properly protected batteries in accordance with airline rules. Use a waterproof vehicle liner, separate wet and dry bags, and enough drying time before the return flight.
Euro (EUR)
Cards are common in Leipzig, hotels, supermarkets, and larger leisure businesses. Carry some cash for small lake kiosks, parking machines, club-style bases, deposits, or rural services that may not accept every card.
ATMs are easy to find in Leipzig, Markkleeberg, and larger towns. Do not rely on an ATM at the quarry or directly beside a dive entry; withdraw before leaving the urban area and use bank-operated machines where possible.

Bring a Type C or F adapter and verify that chargers are rated for 230V. Charge lights, cameras, heated equipment, and computers only with manufacturer-approved systems, and follow airline rules for spare lithium batteries.
Communications
Mobile data and voice coverage are generally strong in Leipzig and around major lakes, but quarry walls, rural roads, or remote shore sections can reduce signal. Save operator numbers, meeting points, and emergency procedures offline. Download MDV or LeipzigMOVE routes before departure, carry a charged power bank, and ensure at least one team member can call from the shore. The EU emergency number is 112.
Language
German is the working language. English is common in central Leipzig and some dive operations; Tauchschule Kamski advertises training in German and English. Do not assume every briefing, waiver, medical form, or emergency conversation will be available in English. Ask for an English briefing when booking and learn key terms for depth, gas, cold, visibility, exit, emergency, and oxygen.
Insurance
Carry travel medical insurance plus specific scuba or freediving accident coverage that includes hyperbaric treatment, emergency transport, repatriation, and the activities and depths you plan. European health cards support eligible public care for qualifying travelers but do not replace travel insurance or specialized diving assistance. Technical, rebreather, decompression, overhead, and competition activities may need explicit coverage. Keep policy numbers and the DAN emergency line offline and share them with the team.
