A rental car is strongly recommended. Calvi's beaches and waterfront are walkable, and the Balagne train can help between Calvi and Ile-Rousse, but it does not solve access to Galeria, Porto, Piana or early boat check-ins. Taxis are limited and expensive for multi-base touring.
Road distances understate travel time. Expect narrow lanes, blind bends, livestock, cyclists, viewpoint stops and seasonal congestion. Refuel before remote stretches and download offline maps. After diving, do not choose a higher inland road until your conservative post-dive altitude interval is complete.

Choose travel insurance that explicitly covers scuba or freediving at the planned depth and certification level, plus emergency evacuation, recompression, search and rescue, missed connections, weather cancellation and repatriation. Verify exclusions for technical profiles, solo activity, competitions and pre-existing conditions. EU travelers should carry an EHIC when eligible, while recognizing that it does not pay for private rescue, return travel or all hyperbaric costs.
