Do not self-drive a symptomatic diver unless emergency services specifically direct it. Preserve computer data, gas information and buddy statements for the medical team.

Warm months can bring blue-green algae and official warnings. Check the exact north- or south-shore Zwemwater.nl status immediately before entry and obey on-site signs.

Winter depth temperatures can approach 4°C, and cold layers persist outside winter. Plan exposure protection, surface shelter and a conservative exit before dexterity or judgment declines.

Sand and silt can turn an average 4 m view into near-zero visibility after poor finning or a busy team. Maintain contact, use a compass and agree lost-buddy procedures.

Bergeend's deep targets require roughly 300 m of travel from the breakwater and depths near 35 m or more. Navigation errors, gas use and cold compound quickly.

Protect the Underwater Archive

Oostvoornse Meer's archaeological value comes from ship remains preserved in former estuary sediment. Exposed wooden material is already threatened by shipworm after artificial salinization, and diver contact adds avoidable damage.

Do not recover, reposition, clean, tie into or penetrate historical remains.
Maintain neutral buoyancy and frog-kick above sand to limit silt and abrasion.
Photograph suspected finds in place and record the location without publicizing sensitive coordinates.
Report significant observations to the competent heritage or site-management authority.
Leave artificial structures intact and remove only litter that can be safely collected without disturbing habitat or archaeology.
Respect nature-reserve signs, breeding-season restrictions and all live water-quality closures.

The lake's story depends on divers behaving as observers and stewards rather than collectors.
