Oostvoornse Meer

Core Risk Controls

• Dive within certification and recent cold-water experience. An easy entry does not make a 35 m wreck route an easy dive.
• Use a written route, compass heading, gas turn and lost-buddy procedure. Low visibility can worsen rapidly over sand.
• Carry two lights and accessible cutting tools around objects, ropes, guide lines and wreck fragments.
• Build thermal limits into the plan. End the dive before shivering, loss of dexterity or confusion.
• Keep enough gas for navigation delay, a missed target and an unplanned surface swim.
• Separate recreational, decompression, penetration and DPV teams so each has matching equipment and rescue capability.
• Check water-quality advisories and surface wind immediately before entry. Motorized watercraft are prohibited, but swimmers, surfers and other users remain a surface concern.

For freediving, use one-up, one-down supervision, a purpose-built line and a trained safety diver. For snorkeling, stay in a designated bathing area when possible and use visible surface equipment.
