When to go
Tikehau is warm and diveable yearround, but the easiest overall planning window is May to October, with September and October often the best balance of drier weather, less midwinter wind, and flexible lagoon days.
Best overall window
Dryseason finish, often easier surface conditions, and water around 27°C to 28°C.
Outside that window
Warm humid rainy season, with storms and swells able to affect flights, boats, and pass plans.
Start with the overall answer, then switch only when scuba, freedive, snorkel, or topside timing changes the trip in a meaningful way.
The overall row stays visible so you can compare it against the currently selected scope.

Manta Rays at the Old Pearl Farm
Best for Snorkel, Scuba, Freedive
Apr to Oct
Manta rays can appear yearround, but many operators and dive planners emphasize stronger odds through the dryseason and shoulder months.
Hammerhead and Tiger Shark Potential
Best for Scuba, Freedive
Jan to Jun
Advanced divers and guided freedivers may plan for larger shark potential around the wetter pelagic season, but sightings are never guaranteed and should not involve feeding or baiting.
Reef Sharks, Turtles, Dolphins, and Schooling Fish
Best for Scuba, Snorkel, Freedive
Year-round
Tuheiava Pass and the lagoon can deliver yearround Tuamotu life, from blacktip and grey reef sharks to turtles, dolphins, barracuda, tuna, and dense reeffish schools.
Bird Island Seabird Colonies
Best for Topside, Snorkel
Year-round
Motu Puarua, commonly called Bird Island, adds brown noddies, redfooted boobies, terns, frigate birds, and nesting behavior to lagoontour itineraries.
