About Ago Island

Ago Island is a boat dive off Onagawa where rocky reef, narrow cuts, and small ridges give the site more shape than a flat bottom. The main area stays shallow to mid-depth, so the appeal is moving through the terrain rather than chasing depth. Current is the key variable, and the channels can clean up well when the tide is moving. It is a strong macro stop for pink dango, beaked sculpin, and natural sea-squirt cover, with seasonal migrants showing up when conditions line up.

Local Intel For Ago Island

Community notes to help plan your visit.

Scuba Diving

Best as a guided boat reef dive: short transfer, line or anchor entry, and enough relief to keep the route interesting without going deep.

Freediving

Not a primary freedive site. Boat logistics and shifting current make it a better scuba choice.

Snorkeling

Not a dedicated snorkel site. The moving water and boat entry make it a poor casual snorkel choice.
