Season planner for Bonito

Bonito is visitable year-round, but the feel changes with rain and Brazilian holiday calendars. The drier season (roughly May to Sep) usually delivers the clearest rivers and the most comfortable hiking weather, with cooler nights and mild daytime highs. The wetter season (roughly Nov to Mar) is warmer and more humid, with fuller waterfalls and occasional runoff that can reduce visibility on some rivers. Specialty sinkholes can have their own visibility cycles. For example, Lagoa Misteriosa commonly suspends beginner (batismo) dives from mid-Sep to mid-Apr due to microalgae and reduced visibility. Book the most capacity-limited activities first, then fill in flexible days.

Ideal: Dry season. Best overall water clarity and easier road access. Nights can feel cool (often around 15°C to 18°C), with pleasant daytime highs.

Plan Carefully: Rainy season. Hotter, more humid days and occasional turbidity after heavy rain. Waterfalls tend to be at their fullest.

July and late December to February can feel busy due to Brazilian school holidays and Carnaval season.
