What It Feels Like
Bunaken is North Sulawesi's wall-diving classic: coral gardens in snorkel depth, then dramatic drop-offs that run for kilometers. Base in Manado for smooth logistics and to add day trips beyond the park, or stay on Bunaken or Siladen for short boat rides and early entries. Expect warm water around 27°C, visibility often 15 m to 30 m, and reliable turtle encounters. Most diving is boat-based with tide-driven currents, which makes for easy drifts on calm days and exciting rides when the current picks up.
Signature Sites
Start Here
A headline Bunaken wall: a coral garden starts around {{ 5 | distance:m }}, then the wall drops quickly.
Wall diving inside the park with a mix of big and small: turtles, reef sharks, and eagle rays are possible, plus macro life in the sponges and crevices.
A shallower profile that can be ideal for long bottom times and skill work.
Level Up
A steeper, more dramatic wall feel with larger coral structures.
A villagefront wall option that can work well for early starts.
A wall site known for both reef scenery and the possibility of pelagic passbys.
Advanced
A wreck option closer to Manado for a change of pace or a check dive day.

Operator Checklist
- How to plan your Bunaken dive days:
- Choose your base: Manado is best for flexibility (restaurants, day trips), while island stays are best for maximizing time on the reef.
- Expect boat diving: most Bunaken sites are visited by boat, with timing set by tides and current.
- Bring proof of park access: the park uses an official ticket system, and many operators can arrange tickets for you. Keep your confirmation or QR handy.
- Add variety: consider 1 rest day for Tomohon and Lake Linow, or a dawn trek at Tangkoko.
Conditions Fallback
- Expect boat diving: most Bunaken sites are visited by boat, with timing set by tides and current.
Avoid
- Do not ignore tide-driven current and wall edges advisories from local operators.
