When to go
Crete is viable for local diving most of the year, but the best traveler window is May to October.
Best overall window
Warm air, active operators, better hiking comfort, and sea temperatures moving from spring cool to autumn warm around 20°C to 26°C.
Outside that window
Cooler water around 16°C to 18°C, winter rain and storms, fewer tours, and limited divecenter schedules.
Start with the overall answer, then switch only when scuba, freedive, snorkel, or topside timing changes the trip in a meaningful way.

The sea is usually warmest late in the season, which benefits snorkelers, freedivers, and divers doing multiple dives in thinner exposure suits.
