Cold-water wrecks, alpine walls and clear shallows beneath the French Alps
Key fee: Destination-wide lake diving permit
No general destination fee
Confirm these fees before you book so your operator plan and day budget match what you will pay onsite.
There is no single destination-wide dive permit, tourism levy or marine-park tag for these three French lakes. Costs are instead built from operator sessions, optional club or federation paperwork, local accommodation tax, parking and beach facilities. Requirements vary by provider, so written confirmation is more reliable than assuming a certification card alone guarantees access.
| Fee | Amount | Applies to | Where to pay | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Destination-wide lake diving permit | No general destination fee Not applicable | Scuba, freedive and snorkel visitors | Not applicable |
Local navigation zones, beach rules, club procedures and operator supervision still apply. Absence of a general permit does not create unrestricted independent access. |
| Municipal tourist tax | Variable by commune and accommodation class Per person per night, subject to exemptions | Eligible overnight visitors | Collected by the accommodation or booking platform | France's official guidance states that the amount varies by commune and lodging type. Check the booking total or local authority calculator. |
| Lake Annecy deep exploration dive | From EUR 50 in the reviewed official listing Per booked activity | Qualified scuba divers accepted by the operator | Lake Annecy Tourist Office booking page or Annecy Plongee Nautisme | Equipment rental, additional supervision, temporary licensing or an adaptation dive can cost extra. The listing requires a medical certificate and sets experience conditions for Le France. |
| Introductory scuba session | Around EUR 90 in reviewed Annecy and Bourget listings Per participant and session | First-time divers meeting age and health rules | Participating local operator or official tourism booking page | Inclusions, minimum age, water-temperature limits for children and cancellation rules differ by provider. |
| Club, federation or temporary insurance paperwork | Variable Per day, course or membership period | Divers when required by the chosen organization | The organizing club or operator | Ask whether your existing certification and insurance are accepted or whether a temporary licence, medical form or supplemental cover is mandatory. |
| Beach access and parking | Free to locally priced Per entry, hour or day depending on site | Drivers and users of paid facilities | Municipal kiosk, parking meter, app or beach entrance | Popular Lake Annecy and Lac du Bourget areas can fill early in July and August. A paid parking space does not authorize a dive entry. |
