When to go
June through September is the easiest shared answer for scuba, freediving, snorkeling, beaches, and family travel because the sea is at its warmest and operator schedules are broadest.
Best overall window
Broad operator schedules, long daylight, and sea temperatures that generally rise from about 18°C toward roughly 22°C at the seasonal peak.
Outside that window
Cold sea commonly around 12°C to 17°C, more weather interruptions, and limited or trainingled operator availability outside published seasons.
Start with the overall answer, then switch only when scuba, freedive, snorkel, or topside timing changes the trip in a meaningful way.

| Area | Best months | Why it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Hendaye and Txingudi Bay | June to September | Best for sheltered training, guided snorkeling, freediving, beach time, and crossborder rail access. Main caution: School Holiday Crowds. |
| Saint-Jean-de-Luz, Ciboure, and Socoa | June to October | The protected bay and short operator boat runs support the broadest mix of diving, snorkeling, harbor life, and nondiver options. Main caution: School Holiday Crowds. |
| Outer Basque Coast and Offshore Sites | June to September | Wreck, cave, and exposed rocky objectives need the calmest usable weather window and remain subject to lastminute route changes. Main caution: Crossings and exposed sites can feel rougher in this stretch. |
