What It Feels Like

Koh Phangan is a convenient base for boat diving in the Gulf of Thailand, with regular day trips to Sail Rock and (in calm periods) longer runs to Koh Tao pinnacles and wrecks. PADI-affiliated shops around Thong Sala, Baan Tai, and Haad Yao commonly bundle transfers, equipment, and lunch, so you can stay in one place while still diving the region's headline sites.

Signature Sites

Start Here

  • Sail Rock

    The Gulf's marquee pinnacle: structure runs from about {{ 40 | distance:m }} to the surface, with a chimney swimthrough that divers often enter around {{ 6 | distance:m }} and exit around {{ 18 | distance:m }}.

  • Southwest Pinnacle

    A multipinnacle reef (Koh Tao area) typically dived between {{ 5 | distance:m }} and {{ 30 | distance:m }}, often with wideangle schools when visibility stretches toward {{ 30 | visibility:m }}.

Advanced

  • Chumphon Pinnacle

A large granite pinnacle complex (Koh Tao area) with the top around {{ 14 | distance:m }} and deeper sections that can push past {{ 30 | distance:m }}; known for schooling fish and occasional whaleshark encounters.

  • HTMS Sattakut 742, Wreck

    A {{ 48 | distance:m }} naval vessel turned artificial reef near Koh Tao, with a maximum depth around {{ 35 | distance:m }} and upper structure near {{ 18 | distance:m }}.

  • Koh Ma

Shoreaccess reef off Mae Haad that starts shallow for snorkelers and slopes deeper for divers, making it ideal for refreshers, training dives, and mellow afternoon profiles.
