Most visitors fly to Lord Howe Island Airport (LDH) via Sydney or Brisbane, then continue on a domestic service. International visitors must enter Australia on the mainland first, then connect to Lord Howe as a domestic flight.

Book accommodation before flights when possible. Visitor numbers are capped at 400 at any one time.
There is no regular passenger ferry. Sea access is mainly private yachts (with strict mooring and biosecurity considerations) and freight services.

The island is compact (about 11 km long) and designed for slow travel.
