When To Go

Season planner for Lord Howe Island

Lord Howe Island is diveable year-round, but the balance between lagoon calm and offshore access changes with wind and swell. Spring through early autumn usually brings warmer water and better chances for Ball's Pyramid weather windows, plus long snorkel days in the lagoon. Winter is cooler and can be windier, which can limit offshore trips, but it is excellent for hiking and for travelers who want the quietest feel. Because the island caps visitors at 400, crowds stay controlled, yet accommodation and flights still need early booking in peak months.
