When To Go · Destination Guide
Wrecks, arches, caves, and clear Mediterranean water in one compact island chain
When to go
Malta is diveable year round, but the character of the trip changes a lot.
Best overall window
Warm water, broad site choice, and more comfortable topside temperatures around 20°C to 29°C
Outside that window
Cooler water near 15°C to 17°C and more wind-driven site changes

Loggerhead turtle nesting season
Best for Topside, Snorkel, Scuba
Jun to Aug
ERA-managed beach protections can appear when loggerhead turtles nest on Maltese or Gozitan beaches.
Warmest sea temperatures
Best for Scuba, Freedive, Snorkel
Aug to Oct
The sea holds summer heat well, so late summer and early autumn usually offer the broadest comfort window for long in-water days.
Summer festa season
Best for Topside
Jun to Sep
Village festas bring fireworks, brass bands, church feasts, and a much livelier evening atmosphere after dive hours.
Autumn storm energy on exposed coasts
Best for Scuba, Freedive, Snorkel
Sep to Nov
Great diving still happens in autumn, but west-facing and north-facing entries can swing from ideal to unsuitable faster after a weather change.
