Scheveningen and IJmuiden are gateways to one of northwest Europe's most concentrated wreck-diving classrooms. Get Wet operates all-day two-dive outings from Scheveningen, while Duikteam IJmond documents the local practice of matching every dive to slack water and conservative sea-state limits. The main wrecks usually sit within recreational depth, but conditions make the destination advanced: current can persist around slack, visibility may change sharply, and a direct blue-water ascent can place a team in active shipping water.
The best dives combine structure and ecology. Breydon Widgeon is an upright trawler covered in marine growth; De Hondsbosch retains a recognizable bow and superstructure; the English Cruisers carry exceptional historic weight; and Pispotten illustrates the ghost-net problem. Plan for drysuit or thick-wetsuit protection, redundant cutting capability, a bright DSMB, a primary and backup light, and disciplined gas reserves.
