Scuba

What It Feels Like

Scuba around Sosua Bay is one of the simplest ways to sample North Coast Atlantic diving without committing to long crossings or difficult entries. Operators such as Dive Cabarete, Sosua Diving Center, and Superior Dive run short boat rides to shallow reefs, healthy walls, and deeper profiles that let new divers and experienced buddies build very different days from the same harbor. The bay keeps many dives approachable for Open Water divers, while advanced divers can still chase deeper wall drops, stronger current, and longer multi-level profiles on the right morning. Puerto Plata adds the airport, more hotel choice, and better surface-day range, so the whole corridor works well for long weekends, certification trips, and mixed groups.

Signature Sites

Start Here

  • 3 Rocks

Classic Sosua starter site with three shallow rocky features, sandy bottom, and enough fish life to keep training dives interesting.

  • West Wall

A short boat ride from shore leads to healthy reef structure and three sunken Spanish cannons, giving the dive a strong mix of marine life and localhistory flavor.

  • Coral Gardens - Dominican Republic

A beginnerfriendly mini wall and healthy surrounding reef make this a strong second or third dive site when you want color, easy navigation, and a good chance of spotting classic Caribbean fish and invertebrates.

Advanced

  • Ray Point

This is the advanced wall option for divers who want a sharper edge.

Planning Playbook

Operator Checklist

  • Book your dive days early in the trip and keep the exact site sequence flexible. North Coast weather can change the menu fast, especially from December through March and again during tropical systems. Morning boats usually offer the cleanest surface conditions. Ask about nitrox if you want longer bottom time on deeper wall profiles, and ask directly whether the operator supports Sosua Marine Park or coral-restoration donations. Cruise passengers should take the earliest pickup that still gives a safe return buffer to Taino Bay or Amber Cove.
