Channel Diving from Brighton Marina and Sovereign Harbour gives Sussex its defining experience: tide-timed day boats to historic Channel wrecks, reefs and drifts. Eastbourne's RMS Alaunia can rise roughly 10 m from the seabed, while SS Oceana and Norman's Bay broaden the historical range. Selsey adds a different scale, from shallow East Beach and Mulberry remains to Mixon Hole's wall. The coast can serve supervised beginners on selected sites, but its center of gravity is intermediate and advanced cold-water diving. Short slack periods, low or changing visibility, current, fishing gear and boat traffic reward polished buoyancy, DSMB deployment and conservative gas planning. Technical divers can find deeper wrecks, yet no site should be treated as guaranteed: local skippers routinely adjust for wind, tide and visibility.

Operator Checklist
Book by harbor cluster and qualification rather than asking for a generic Sussex trip. Brighton and Eastbourne charters may run one deep wreck dive or two shallower dives, while Selsey often uses smaller-scale guided shore and boat formats. Send certification, recent-dive history, maximum planned depth, gas choice and cylinder details before booking. Ask whether weights, cylinders, nitrox, trimix, oxygen-clean fills and between-day storage are available. Build at least one weather reserve day, and never pressure a skipper to keep the advertised wreck when sea state or slack timing says otherwise.
