When To Go · Destination Guide
Tide windows, chalk reefs and a century-spanning wreck archive on England's south coast
When to go
Sussex diving is possible through much of the year, but May through September gives the strongest overall balance of warmer water, longer daylight, active charter schedules and topside flexibility.
Best overall window
Longer days, active charter schedules and water warming toward a latesummer peak around 16°C to 19°C
Outside that window
Crossings and exposed sites can feel rougher in this stretch.
Start with the overall answer, then switch only when scuba, freedive, snorkel, or topside timing changes the trip in a meaningful way.

| Area | Best months | Why it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Brighton and Eastbourne charters | May to September | Offshore wreck access depends on sea state and a suitable slack window, so reserve days remain valuable even in summer. Main caution: Wind Exposed Departures. |
| Selsey shore and small-boat cluster | May to September | Shallow shore options can be more accessible than major wreck charters, but Selsey remains strongly tide and weather dependent. Main caution: Tide Limited Entries. |
These do not replace the overall planner. Use them only if a specific animal or event is driving your trip dates.
