For a suspected diving injury or any life-threatening event, call 112 before contacting a membership or insurance service. Give the dispatcher the lake, named entry, nearest road access and whether the patient was diving. Administer high-concentration oxygen if trained and equipped, protect the casualty from cold, preserve dive computers and record profiles and symptoms. DAN Europe provides 24/7 specialist diving-emergency support at +39 06 4211 5685, but its own procedure says local emergency services come first in a dangerous situation. Major hospital care is available in the Amsterdam-Utrecht region; emergency dispatch or DAN should select the appropriate facility. Do not self-drive to an assumed chamber, because hyperbaric availability and acceptance can change.

A warm-looking surface can hide very cold, dark water below. Use season-appropriate exposure protection, test weighting and stop the dive before cold impairs dexterity or judgment.

Pleasure craft are a primary risk around open Vinkeveen islands and Spiegelplas. Stay inside signed zones where available, carry a surface marker and never surface blindly in a navigation channel.

Soft sand and peat can turn a usable route into near-zero visibility after poor finning or heavy traffic. Maintain contact procedures, use a frog kick and carry dependable lights even by day.

Sand-extraction lakes can drop quickly. Snorkel only at designated beaches, and scuba teams should set depth alarms and turn pressures before following a contour into darker water.

Low-impact Lake Practice

Zandeiland 4's protected dive zone excludes boating and fishing, but divers still need to protect its bottom. Keep fins, gauges and reels off peat, sediment and mussel beds. Observe pike, eel and crayfish without feeding, handling or blocking shelter. Clean, drain and dry equipment before moving between lakes so plants and small organisms are not transported in boots, pockets or cylinders.

At Spiegelplas, respect Natura 2000 restrictions, stay out of reed beds and keep distance from wintering birds. Drones are prohibited under the reserve's visitor rules. At Vinkeveen, use designated moorings, avoid natural banks and swim beaches, and follow the signed no-mooring areas. Pack out line, tape, cable ties and all food waste.
