Bridge-pier dive with easy shore access and current
Bridge-pier dive with easy shore access and current
Alssundbroen is a shore-access bridge dive north of Sønderborg where the water drops away quickly beside the piers. The route works best as a disciplined out-and-back: short shore access, a controlled turn on the slope, and a conservative return inside the bridge area. Parking is straightforward, but current and traffic make this a site for careful timing rather than a casual splash. Sea trout and other temperate-water fish are a realistic draw around the structure.

Depth range, seasonality, and planning context.
Reported Depth
0m - 12m
Depth Note
The bridge corridor is deep enough for underwater work around the piers, and the crossing should be treated as a deep current-sensitive channel rather than a shallow shelf.
Best Season
Year-round; late spring through summer is the easiest window.
Typical Conditions
Deep water close to shore, sandy patches farther out, and a mixed temperate-water bottom of sand, mussels, weed, and stone.
Hazards, restrictions, and access requirements.
Key Hazards
Safety Notes
Plan around occasional strong currents, keep a visible marker when appropriate, and stay alert for anglers and surface traffic in the sound.
Access Restrictions
Use public parking and shoreline entry only; do not treat the bridge itself as access.
Legal Notes
The bridge is a road crossing reserved for vehicle traffic, so diving access should stay off the deck and on the public shoreline approaches.
Community notes to help plan your visit.
Scuba Diving
Best handled as a careful shore dive with a conservative turn and strong surface awareness.
Freediving
Not a routine freedive site; the current and traffic pressure make scuba the safer fit.
Snorkeling
Not recommended as a casual snorkel site because current and surface activity can build quickly.
