Cenote Yax-Chen
An open cenote in the Ox Bel Ha system, with an average depth of about 5–7 m. The bottom is made up of tiny shells, sediment, and algae and is described as very sensitive, with large boulders creating places where you can stand. It has a lake-like feel and is surrounded by mangroves. After rain, tannic acid can create a colorful thermocline at the surface, and wildlife can include tarpon, blue crabs, a small crocodile, and other freshwater fish.
