Reef drifts, cenotes, and big-animal expeditions across three coastlines
Actualizado 4 mar 2026 • 5 fuentes
Resumen
Mexico is a rare one-country dive portfolio: Caribbean drift walls and reefs, freshwater cenotes, the Sea of Cortez, and Pacific bays, all reachable on regular flights. Base in Cozumel for classic wall drifts, pair Playa del Carmen or Tulum with cenotes for crystal-clear training days, then head to Baja for sea lions and big schools around La Paz and the protected reef of Cabo Pulmo. For bucket-list pelagics, liveaboards run to Revillagigedo in season.
Expect warm water in the Mexican Caribbean (roughly 26°C to 29°C), stronger thermoclines in Baja (about 19°C to 29°C through the year), and summer hurricane risk on both coasts. Mexico's CONANP protected areas add clear rules and entrance fees that most operators handle for you.
Many marquee areas are inside CONANP protected zones with clear rules and entrance fees.
Pair ocean diving with cenotes from Tulum or Playa del Carmen for calm-water days.
Liveaboards to Revillagigedo target pelagics in remote blue-water conditions.
Cabo Pulmo is a standout national-park reef experience with strong conservation controls.
Protected water access · Nine bays, many boat-only beaches
