Season planner for Addu Atoll (Seenu Atoll)
Maldives Meteorological Service describes two seasons: the southwest monsoon (wet-season) normally mid-May to November, and the northeast monsoon (dry-season) January to March, with April and December as transitional months. For Addu, expect warm water year-round, more wind and rain in the southwest monsoon, and generally calmer, clearer conditions in the northeast monsoon. Plan channel and manta sessions by tide in any month, and keep flexibility during the wet-season months.

Activity Drilldowns
OverallJanuary - April·Crowd:Low To Moderate·Cost:Premium
Ideal: Northeast monsoon (dry season): calmer weather and commonly better visibility for reef and wreck days.
Plan Carefully: Southwest monsoon (wet season): more wind and rain; visibility can drop with plankton and sea state can limit boats.
Even in wet season, rain is often showery with sunny gaps.
ScubaJanuary - April (visibility) & May - November (plankton productivity)·Crowd:Low To Moderate·Cost:Premium
Ideal: Better odds of clear water for the wreck and photography.
Plan Carefully: More wind and rain. Plankton can lower visibility but increase feeding activity around channels and reef points.
Channel dives are tidedriven yearround.
FreediveJanuary - April·Crowd:Low·Cost:Premium
Ideal: Calmer seas help with buoy work, surface recovery, and line setups with a safety boat.
Plan Carefully: More wind and rain. Avoid channel mouths and do depth sessions only with robust safety support.
Freediving is workable yearround if you stay conservative and choose sheltered zones.
SnorkelJanuary - April·Crowd:Low To Moderate·Cost:Premium
Ideal: More comfortable surface conditions and clearer water for casual snorkel sessions.
Plan Carefully: Wind chop and showers are more common. Shorten sessions and avoid channel-adjacent snorkeling in current.
If you want manta snorkeling, prioritize calm mornings and guided sessions.
TopsideJanuary - April·Crowd:Low·Cost:Premium
Ideal: Drier weather makes cycling and wetlands walks easier.

Wetseason showers often come with sunny gaps.
