The islands have no commercial airport. Most travelers fly to Catania, transfer by road to Milazzo and board a Liberty Lines hydrofoil or Siremar ferry. Palermo is a longer road transfer to Milazzo, while Reggio Calabria can work when a seasonal direct hydrofoil aligns with the flight. Naples provides a longer conventional-ferry route. Use Lipari or Vulcano as the initial landing rather than attempting a tight same-day connection directly to Stromboli. Carrier timetables change by season and official notices can suspend individual sailings or move operations to a different pier. Recheck the route the day before, arrive with valid identification and preserve a buffer before the return flight. Check Meteo Aeronautica's current Lipari and marine products alongside the carrier's own disruption notices.
Lipari has the broadest mix of buses, taxis, scooters and rental vehicles, with walking practical around the port and old town. Vulcano Porto is compact, but distant beaches and viewpoints may require a taxi, scooter or excursion.
