Scuba

What It Feels Like

The Gilis are built for easy, high-reward diving: warm water, short boat rides, and a menu that ranges from gentle coral gardens to current-swept drifts. Beginners get confidence-building reefs and turtle-heavy sites, while experienced divers can chase adrenaline at deeper ridges when tides run. Visibility often sits around 15 m to 30 m, and most dives are comfortably in recreational depths. The conservation angle is real: diving is inside TWP Gili Matra, and many operators support reef protection through mooring buoys and local restoration projects.

Signature Sites

Start Here

  • Taket Malang

    Underwater sea mounts that can range from {{ 7 | distance:m }} to {{ 40 | distance:m }}.

  • Meno Wall

    A photogenic wall and slope that runs from about {{ 5 | distance:m }} to {{ 16 | distance:m }}, with more depth beyond.

  • Turtle Point / Turtle City

Level Up

  • Biorocks

Reef restoration structures that double as a great, easy dive with lots of small life and a clear conservation story.

A currentswept corner with canyons and schooling fish.

  • Deep Turbo

    Advanced drift territory with strong currents and deeper profiles (often {{ 18 | distance:m }} to {{ 35 | distance:m }}).

Planning Playbook

Operator Checklist

  • Booking and island strategy
  • If you want the widest dive-shop selection and nightlife, base on Gili Trawangan.
  • If you want quieter evenings, base on Gili Meno or Gili Air and day-trip by boat.
  • Dive planning tips
  • Ask your shop how they handle the TWP Gili Matra karcis (marine conservation entry ticket). Many arrange it for you.

Conditions Fallback

  • If you want the widest dive-shop selection and nightlife, base on Gili Trawangan.
  • If you want quieter evenings, base on Gili Meno or Gili Air and day-trip by boat.
  • Prioritize current-prone sites (like Shark Point or Deep Turbo) early in the trip, so you can reschedule if conditions are not right.

Avoid

  • Keep distance from turtles, never chase for photos, and avoid blocking their path to the surface.
