Scuba

What It Feels Like

Gozo gives scuba divers a rare mix of freedom and substance. You can shore-dive world-famous Dwejra in the morning, switch to Ghasri or Xwejni if the wind changes, and still finish with a relaxed sunset dinner in Xlendi. The attraction is classic Maltese underwater geology: Blue Hole's sink-and-arch profile, Inland Sea's tunnel exit, Cathedral Cave's vast lit chamber, and north-coast walls cut by cracks and ledges. Then there is the wreck game at Xatt l-Ahmar, where Karwela, Cominoland, and Xlendi pull the trip toward advanced depth. Shops all over the island know how to build the day around conditions, which is why Gozo works for both training holidays and experienced self-guided shore divers.

Signature Sites

Start Here

  • Inland Sea & Tunnel

A sheltered inland lagoon leads to a tunnel that exits dramatically into the open sea.

Advanced

  • Blue Hole & Azure Window

    Gozo's signature geology dive.

  • Cathedral Cave

One of the island's bestloved cavern dives, with a vast chamber, surface air space, and a very photogenic opening.

  • MV Karwela Wreck

The bestknown wreck in Gozo sits upright around the {{ 40 | distance:m }} mark, with the upper structure shallower and photogenic staircases and decks that draw experienced wreck divers.

Planning Playbook

Operator Checklist

  • Book your dive package around flexibility, not fixed sites. The best operators choose the coast daily according to marine forecast and local wind.
  • If you are self-guiding shore dives, ask a local center for a same-day go or no-go call before committing to Dwejra, Ghasri, or north-coast sites.
  • Xatt l-Ahmar wreck days are best kept for trained and current divers who are comfortable around {{ 30 | distance:m }} to {{ 40 | distance:m }}.
  • Shoulder seasons are excellent for mixed itineraries because the sea can still be warm while road access, parking, and popular entries feel less rushed than peak summer.
  • Keep an SMB or DSMB on you, especially when surfacing away from the entry or diving in areas that see boats.

Conditions Fallback

  • Book your dive package around flexibility, not fixed sites. The best operators choose the coast daily according to marine forecast and local wind.
  • If you are self-guiding shore dives, ask a local center for a same-day go or no-go call before committing to Dwejra, Ghasri, or north-coast sites.
  • Xatt l-Ahmar wreck days are best kept for trained and current divers who are comfortable around {{ 30 | distance:m }} to {{ 40 | distance:m }}.

Avoid

  • Do not ignore wind direction matters more than season advisories from local operators.
