When To Go · Destination Guide
Mediterranean shore diving with cave light, wreck depth, and a calmer island rhythm
When to go
Gozo works yearround, but the smart way to read the destination is by wind direction and sea state, not by calendar alone.
Best overall window
Warm sea building or lingering at roughly 19°C to 26°C, long daylight, and easier mixed landsea planning
Outside that window
Winter fronts can close exposed coasts, while August brings peak heat, peak beach demand, and tighter Comino logistics

Late-summer warm-water window
Best for Scuba, Freedive, Snorkel
Aug to Oct
The sea is typically at its warmest in late summer and often stays very comfortable into autumn, which improves long snorkel sessions and relaxed freedive training days.
Salt harvest season at Xwejni
Best for Topside
May to Sep
Traditional salt production is easiest to see along the north coast in the hot, dry months, turning a simple sunset stop into a livingculture experience.
Blue Lagoon managed-access season
Best for Snorkel, Topside
May to Oct
Comino's Blue Lagoon runs under a bookingslot system in the warmer season, so daytrippers from Gozo need to organize access ahead of time.
Freedive event window
Best for Freedive
Aug
Recent apnea competitions around Mgarr ixXini point to August as a visible period for structured freedive training, coaching, and performance activity.
